Dr. James is an internationally know specialist in hyperbaric and diving medicine. He is medical consultant to 110 chambers in the UK originally treating multiple sclerosis and now, cerebral palsy and the brain injured child. Dr. James is responsible for founding the Hyperbaric Trust in the United Kingdom which promotes the treatment of cerebral palsy and the brain injured child and was responsible for having the National Health Service pay for this therapy. He has lectured around the world and holds numerous appointments, is well know for work on the blood brain barrier, and has made many contributions to the treatment of decompression illness. Dr. James is indeed a high profile figure and will discuss the role of the blood brain barrier and also bring to light the tragic mistake on the discontinuance of surface oxygen for the premature baby because of the fear of retrolental fibroplasia. Since this tragic mistake of oxygen deprivation occurred, the incidence of cerebral palsy has skyrocketed.
